Raise the take-up lever to it’s highest point by turning the hand wheel toward you.
Raise presser foot with presser foot lifter.
Place a spool of thread on the spool pin.
Draw the end of the thread around the upper thread guide.
Hold the thread with both hands and pull into the pre-tension guide.
