Bobbin winding

1. Draw thread from spool through bobbin winder tension disc as shown in Figure 1.
2. Pull end of thread through hole in bobbin as shown in figure 2.
3. Place bobbin onto bobbin winder shaft with end of thread coming from the top of the bobbin. Place bobbin winder latch against bobbin until it clicks.
4. Holding on to the end of the thread, start machine. When bobbin is slightly filled, snip off end of thread.
5. Start Machine. Wind thread until bobbin winder latch releases. Remove bobbin.
6. Push down bobbin winder reset button.

Stitch length control

The stitch length control regulates the length of the stitch you select. The higher the number – the shorter the stitch. Turn only the outer rim of this control to set the Stitch length.
The number on the stitch length control indicates stitch number per inch. The stitch setting you use will be determined by the thickness of the fabric you are sewing.
A longer stitch setting should be used for thicker fabric or more layers of fabric.
The middle range of the control is the 10 – 12 stitches per inch range which is the most commonly used.
A basting stitch is made by using the longest possible stitch setting – 6 stitches per inch. The red marking on the control is the setting used for the shortest stitches such as in satin stitching.

Stitch with control

This control regulates the width of the stitch you select. The higher the number, the wider the stitch. You may vary or zigzag stitch with by using this control to the settings you desire.
This control must be on the red S in order to do straight stitching.
Turn only the outer rim of this control to set the stitch width.
The center of the control dials the special stitches the machine is capable of sewing.

Threading the needle

1. Turn the hand wheel toward you to raise take up lever to its highest position.
2. Raise the presser foot.
3. Lead thread from the thread unwinder through all through the threading points shown.
Thread the needle from the front to the back.

4. Draw about 3 inches of thread through the eye of the needle.

Needle position selector

Left, Center and right needle position settings are available for placement of both straight and zigzag stitching.
To position, push lever in and move to the desired setting.
Center settings is preferred for normal sewing.
Setting left and right are only used when special placement of stitching is desired.
For example: buttonholes, button sewing.
Do not make any needle position adjustment while the needle is in the fabric.

How to control the width of zigzag stitch

The two thumb screws provided on front of arm allow you to control the width of Zigzag stitches.
The thumb screw A is used to control the width of the wider zigzag stitch and the thumb screw B to control the narrow or zig-zag stitch.

1. To obtain minimum to maximum width zigzag stitches, first loosen thumb screw B to permit the stitch width regulator C to return to its zero position and retighten thumb screw B.
Then loosen thumb screw A, turn stitch width regulator C clockwise as far as it will go and while holding the regulator C in this position, retighten thumb screw A.
You can now regulate the stitch width regulator within the range of 0 to 9mm.

2. To make narrower zigzag stitches, for example, a 0 to 5 mm width zigzag stitches, loosen thumb screws A and B and retighten thumb screw B as explained above.
Then turn stitch width regulator C to 5mm settings and while holding regulator C, retighten thumb screw A.

Positioning the needle on your Singer 630 Golden Touch and Sew machine

The need rises to the up position every time you remove pressure from the speed controller.
You do not have to turn the hand wheel to position the needle for pattern selection, threading, or removing fabric.

If you wish to place the needle in the down position as when pivoting the work on the needle, remove all pressure from the speed controller and turn the hand wheel towards you.
However, before turning the hand wheel wait a few seconds after removing your foot or knee from the speed controller.

This slight delay allows the needle positioning cycle to be completed.
If you turn the hand wheel too soon, the needle will return to the up position.

After you have again started the machine by pressing the speed controller and then stopped it by removing the foot or knee pressure, the needle will stop in the up position.

Threading the needle

Make sure the needle is in its highest position.
1. Raise the presser foot.
2. Leave thread through all threading points as shown.
3. Thread needle from front to back, drawing about 4 in of thread through the eye of the needle.

Threading the needle with built-in threader

1. Draw approximately 5 inches of thread through the threading points on the machine.
Then lower the presser bar and make sure the needle is in its highest position.

2. Open face plate and release needle threader from its storage position by gently pulling it away from the holding pin and lowering threading arm in line with the needle.

3. Position aligning slot in threader arm over positioning screw on needle clamp, bringing threader hook and guides behind the needle.
Pull tab toward you so that the upper and lower hooks guide straddle the needle one on either side and the threading hook comes through the eye of the needle.

4. Place thread across the threading hook, keeping two to three inch of slack thread to the right of the hook and 1 to 2 inches to the left.
Withdrawal Hook from needle eye by pushing threader arm gently back and to the left.

5. Released red from Hook carefully and returned threader to storage position behind face plate.
Be sure aligning slot in thread your arm fits into holding pin.

6. Close face plate.
