Adjusting Stitch length

The stitch length selector controls the length of stitches.
The numbers around the edge of the selector dial express stitch length in stitches per inch; the higher the number, the shorter the stitch.
Generally, the shorter stitches are best for lightweight fabric; longer ones for heavy fabric.
The FINE area is used for the adjustment of the zigzag satin stitching.

Adjusting pressure

The pressure dial regulates the pressure that the presser foot exerts on the fabric.
Correct pressure is important because it enables the fabric to feed smoothly and evenly, without being marred.
The NORM (Normal) setting is an all-purpose setting that can be used for sewing a wide variety of fabrics of different weights and textures.
Intermediate notched settings above and below NORM (Normal), are also provided.
When you need extra control, regulate the setting for heavier or lighter pressure to suit the fabric being sewn.

When darning without an embroidery hoop, set the dial at the lowest setting, DARN.

Lower the presser foot before setting pressure.

To increase pressure, turn dial from NORM (Normal) towards MAX.

To decrease pressure, turn dial from NORM (Normal) towards DARN.

For darning, set dial on DARN.

 

Regulating thread tension

Correct tension is important because too much or too little will weaken your seams or cause your fabric to pucker.
Make a test sample with the fabric and thread you plan to use and examine it.
A perfect stitch will have the needle and bobbin thread locked between the two layers of fabric with no loops on top or bottom and no puckers.

 

Needle thread tension

The tension dial regulates the degree of tension on your needle thread. Set it accordingly to the type of thread and fabric you use. The numbers on the dial eliminate guesswork and duplicating stitches.

If the stitches in your test sample look loose, increase needle thread tension. If the fabric puckers, decrease tension.

To increase tension, turn dial to a higher number.

To decrease tension, turn dial to a lower number.

Placing bobbin case in shuttle on your Stradivaro Model 5600 Sewing Machine

Important: In the following operations the needle must always be above the surface of the machine.
Raise the needle by turning balance wheel toward you by hand.

Removing the bobbin case (see fig. 9)

Open the slide plate (11 Figure 1) by sliding it out.
With the left thumb and forefinger open the hinge latch (D) at the front of the bobbin case and hold securely as you withdraw the bobbin case from the stud of the shuttle body (C).
When held in the above manner the bobbin will not fall out of the bobbin case.

 

 

Inserting the bobbin case

After a winding a fresh bobbin and threading the bobbin case (see figures 6 7 and 8) hold the bobbin case latch with the left thumb and forefinger.
Keeping a protruding finger (E) topside towards the shuttle race Notch (A), press the bobbin case around the stud of the shuttle body (C) until the finger enters the shuttle race notch.
This operation is easy — never force it. Three or four inches of thread hanging free from the bobbin case will be brought up to the needle plate hole as shown in figure 11.

 

 

Sewing in Reverse

When you wish to sew in reverse to tie the thread at the beginning or the end of the seam, press ir.
The reverse push button 8 Fig. 12-b as far as it will go.
The machine will sew backward as long as the button is held in.
Only four or five inches are needed to tie a seam securely.

Threading Instructions

Raise the presser foot lever.

Raise take-up lever to its highest position by turning balance wheel toward you.

Place spool on spool pin as shown with thread coming from the back of the spool.

1. Draw thread into thread guide using both hands.

2. While holding thread near spool. draw thread down into the tension area and then around the check spring holder.

3. Firmly draw thread up and through take-up lever from right to left.

4. Draw thread down and slip it into needle bar thread guide.

5. Thread needle eye from front to back.

NOTE: You may want to cut the end of thread with sharp scissors for easier needle threading.
